There can be numerous reasons on why your electrum Wallet is not connecting to the server. This guide go through some of the solutions that are shared by others from various sources. All links are provided for each solution.

Electrum is a lightweight Bitcoin wallet.

Electrum’s focus is speed, with low resource usage and simplifying Bitcoin. Startup times are instant because it operates in conjunction with Electrum Servers that handle the most complicated parts of the Bitcoin system.

Verify Electrum Configuration

Verify that your IP address matches exactly in your Electrum wallet settings. The port specified in the interface should be 50002. - mynodebtc.com

Firewall Rules

Electrum Server listens on TCP ports 50001 and 50002 for incoming connections. Port 50001 is for plain unencrypted connections and port 50002 is TLS encrypted. We allow only secured connections on IPv4 and IPv6.

Latest Electrum version

Ensure you have downloaded and using the latest version of the Electrum wallet.

Warning: Electrum versions older than 3.3.4 are susceptible to phishing. Do not download Electrum from another source than electrum.org, and learn to verify GPG signatures.

As of the time of writing this post, latest Electrum release is: Electrum-4.2.0

Clear Electrum Wallet Certificates

If your device has changed IP addresses or your Electrum data was cleared, you client may have cached an old certificate and is preventing the connection. On your PC or laptop running the electrum wallet, find the electrum data folder.

To find your Electrum files, try these instructions.

Under the data folder, there should be a folder for certificates. Delete all the certificates and try connecting again. - mynodebtc.com

Switch to a different Electrum server

Servers are run by volunteers so sometimes they go down. You may want to connect to a different server to see if it help solve your problem.

How to change electrum server - bitcoinelectrum.com

  1. Click on the orb icon in the bottom right of the window or choose network from the tools menu
  2. Switch to the overview tab and uncheck “Select server automatically”. Then   right click on a server in the list and choose “Use as server”.
  3. Click on close and then pay attention to the status bar. Electrum will sync with   the new server you selected and hopefully start working properly. If it doesn’t     then repeat the process with a different server.

Download latest Tor browser. (https://www.torproject.org/download/)

Install and start it, wait for it to connect successfully.

Start Electrum and go to Tools>Network>Proxy

You will notice additional Tor related checkbox appeared named "Use Tor proxy at port xxxx"

Check that.

Go to Tools>Network>Server and make sure Server is selected automatically.
